KNYSNA NEWS - The case of the 65-year-old man accused of driving into a traffic official at Knysna Mall on 3 March has been postponed to 16 August.
The accused faces charges of attempted murder and driving under the influence. During his brief court appearance on 10 June, the matter was postponed to 8 July pending a decision on whether it should be transferred to the regional court.
At this appearance, the case was further postponed to 16 August.
The suspect was arrested at the scene shortly after the incident and appeared in court soon afterwards. He was later released on R8 000 bail.
The incident allegedly occurred between 22:00 and 23:00 on 3 March during a routine traffic operation on Main Street. Traffic officer Linden White attempted to stop a vehicle carrying two men after the driver allegedly failed to stop at a red traffic signal.
The situation allegedly escalated when the driver ignored the officer’s instructions and fled the scene. During the incident, the vehicle allegedly struck White before speeding away. The accused was arrested at the scene shortly afterwards.
