KNYSNA NEWS – A 65-year-old man facing charges of attempted murder and driving under the influence after allegedly knocking down a traffic officer at Knysna Mall on 3 March, briefly appeared in the Knysna Magistrate's Court on Wednesday, 10 June.
The case was postponed to 8 July pending a decision on whether it will be transferred to the regional court.
The suspect first appeared in court on 5 March following his arrest at the scene. He was remanded in custody, and the matter was postponed for a formal bail application. Bail of R8 000 was subsequently granted on 23 March.
The accused faces several serious charges, including:
- Attempted murder
- Reckless and negligent driving
- Driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs
- Failure to comply with the instructions of a peace officer
- Resisting arrest
The incident allegedly occurred between 22:00 and 23:00 on 3 March during a routine traffic operation on Main Street.
Traffic officer Linden White attempted to stop a vehicle carrying two men after the driver allegedly failed to stop at a red traffic signal.
The situation escalated when the driver allegedly ignored the officer's instructions and fled the scene.
