Update
PLETTENBERG BAY NEWS - The trial of Bitou Deputy Mayor Nokuzola Kolwapi (55), who faces a charge under environmental legislation, has been postponed to 12 November for continuation.
Kolwapi pleaded not guilty in court today, Tuesday 27 October, to a charge arising from an alleged noise disturbance during her son’s homecoming celebration in Kwanokuthula, Plettenberg Bay, in December last year.
The incident attracted public attention after a video circulated on social media allegedly showing Kolwapi discharging a firearm in a public space.
Her defence attorney, Carl Jeppe, challenged the relevance of testimony by complainant Welcome Tshala, leader of the Non-aligned Civic Movement in Kwanokuthula.
Jeppe argued that Tshala had initially complained about the alleged firearm discharge, not noise disturbance or noise nuisance, and maintained that the docket contained no indication that anyone had complained about noise.
