KNYSNA NEWS - The Forest Edge School community came together recently to mark International Coastal Clean-up Day with the school's first-ever coastal clean-up, helping to keep the shoreline of the beautiful Knysna Estuary free of litter.
More than 45 parents, learners, teachers, family members and friends took part in the clean-up, joined by the enthusiastic Knysna Sea Cadets.
The group set off from the Waterfront campus and made their way towards the parkrun's cobble paving, spreading out in both directions to tackle litter along the shoreline and surrounding areas.
SANParks was also invited to take part, and the school was grateful to welcome a five-member team: Elmonique Peterson, Nondumiso Ngwenya, Leam Philips, Chrystahl Mortlock and Peter Roman. Their presence added an important conservation perspective to the morning. The families had the opportunity to learn more about SANParks' ongoing efforts to protect the coastline, while the team also shared practical tips on conservation and caring for the natural environment.
After an hour of hard work, the volunteers gathered outside the Sea Cadets' campus for a group photo before returning to the school campus for some well-deserved refreshments, prepared by the interim Parent Action Group's committee.
The school expressed its heartfelt thanks to the interim Parent Action committee for helping organise the event, as well as to all the families, friends and Sea Cadets who gave their time to help care for the lagoon.
