PLETTENBERG BAY NEWS - The alleged discharging of a handgun by Bitou deputy mayor Nokuzola Kolwapi that has become national news with various media outlets featuring what could become the remake of Julius Malema II.
Like Malema, who previously claimed he was firing a toy gun, Kolwapi stated in a statement that the object she was allegedly seen holding was not a real firearm, but a replica.
Julius Malema, the leader of the EFF, was found guilty in of discharging a firearm (AK-47) in a public area and being in possession of a firearm and ammunition of which he was licenced for.
This alleged incident (involving Kolwapi) is a blueprint of the Julius Malema incident, said independent firearm forensic expert Jannie van der Westhuizen, of Wesco Forensic Services.
Malema was found guilty in October of unlawful possession of a firearm, unlawful possession of ammunition, discharge of a firearm in a built-up area, failure to take reasonable precautions to person or property and reckless endangerment to person or property.
Pre-sentencing
The charges resulted from the 28 July 2018 EFF rally held in Mdantsane, during which Malema fired a rifle in the air, allegedly belonging to a security company of which Adrian Snyman, Malema’s co-accused, was the director.
The charges were laid by AfriForum in 2018.
Malema is to face a pre-sentencing hearing on 23 January.
