SEDGEFIELD NEWS - Sedgefield Eagle Stars rugby club's A team claimed a hard-fought 38-35 victory over Harlequins RFC from Oudtshoorn in a thrilling Challenge Cup first team match at Grassy Park last Saturday.
The Eagle Stars and Harlequins matched each other throughout an action-packed contest. The hosts crossed the tryline six times to the Harlequins' five. Strong work by the forwards laid the foundation for the victory, while the backs capitalised on the space created to produce several well-worked tries.
Right wing Mzoleli Am, scrumhalf Ezhrin Damane, loosehead prop Bramwell Baadjies, replacement tighthead prop Renier Jantjies and replacement flyhalf Redenzil Molligan, who scored twice, all dotted down for the home side. Reliable goal-kicking by Adriaan Konstable proved crucial as the Eagle Stars held off a late Harlequins fightback to secure the narrow three-point win.
The Harlequins enjoyed more success in the reserve fixtures, defeating the Eagle Stars' B team by 29-20.
The visitors also edged out the Eagle Stars' C-team 18-13.
