PLETTENBERG BAY NEWS -Two alleged drug dealers operating in the Pine Trees area of Plettenberg Bay were recently arrested during a co-ordinated drug bust operation spearheaded by the Plettenberg Bay Police Crime Prevention Team together with Bitou Municipality Law Enforcement night shift officers.
The successful operation resulted in the seizure of suspected drugs, including tik and Mandrax tablets, as well as a substantial amount of cash believed to be linked to illegal drug activities.
According to Bitou Municipality, the operation formed part of ongoing crime-prevention efforts conducted by the municipality's Law Enforcement night shift in close partnership with the police.
The night shift team, which commenced duty at 18:00 on 15 May, achieved the breakthrough after weeks of intelligence-led investigations and information gathered from community informers.
Once the information was verified, the Law Enforcement officers activated the police crime prevention team, leading to the co-ordinated raid and arrests.
The two suspects, a man and a woman believed to be in their late 40s and early 50s, were arrested for suspected drug dealing.
Officers seized suspected tik straws, unprocessed tik, Mandrax tablets and a large amount of cash during the operation.
The suspects were detained at Plettenberg Bay Police and were expected to appear in the Plettenberg Bay Magistrate's Court on Monday 18 May.
Chief: Law Enforcement and Security, Siyasanga Vandala, praised the officers involved and said the successful operation demonstrated the municipality's commitment to fighting crime and drug-related activities in local communities.
"This is not an isolated success. This is the daily norm of our law enforcement operations," said Vandala.
He stressed that drug abuse remains one of the main contributors to crimes such as cable theft, vandalism and burglaries, particularly among young people struggling with addiction.
Vandala called on residents, parents, churches, schools and community leaders to work together with authorities by reporting drug dealing and suspicious activities.
Bitou Municipality also commended the dedicated Law Enforcement officers, police members and community informers who contributed to the successful operation, adding that continued co-operation remains vital in keeping Bitou communities safe.
