KNYSNA NEWS - Chris Nissen Primary School received a boost ahead of the new school term last Friday when the Knysna Section of the Garden Route National Park (GRNP) supported it with a school uniform initiative.
The school, located less than 10km from the Knysna Lakes Section of the GRNP, received 110 pairs of school shoes, 110 shirts and 110 pairs of trousers. MPM Enviro Enterprise, an independent organisation, supported the initiative by sourcing the school uniform items.
The initiative was facilitated through SANParks' Socio-economic Transformation (SET) programme, which supports initiatives aimed at contributing to the socio-economic well-being of communities neighbouring the national parks.
SANParks said this initiative forms part of its commitment to supporting education and promoting the dignity of children. It said access to appropriate school uniforms can help learners attend school with confidence and a greater sense of belonging, while also easing some of the financial pressure their families face.
For SANParks, conservation extends beyond protecting natural areas and is closely linked to the well-being of people living alongside protected areas. The organisation said it recognises that strong relationships with neighbouring communities are essential to achieving its broader conservation mandate.
As such, initiatives such as this one provide a practical way of translating this commitment into assistance that can make a meaningful difference in the lives of local families and learners.
