KNYSNA NEWS - Unrest flared up again in Concordia yesterday, Sunday 18 May, with streets being barricaded with burning tyres and a vehicle belonging to the humanitarian organisation Gift of the Givers being stoned.
The protests were over the lack of water in the area - and follows a fracas last Sunday, 11 March, when a registration process for the coming by-election in Ward 8 was abandoned following a clash between dissenting ANC factions.
Deep concern
The attack on the Gift of the Givers vehicle, that was delivering much-need water to the community in the area, was confirmed by Knysna Gift of the Givers spokesperson Mario Ferreira.
In a media release by provincial secretary Neville Delport, the ANC in the Western Cape noted the attack "with deep concern", saying that "some of those allegedly involved may have been supporters of the ANC".
Southern Cape police spokesperson Sergeant Chris Spies said that, at this stage, their official records showed that no case had been opened.
