KNYSNA NEWS - The joint operations centre says technical difficulties are currently being experienced with the water pump servicing the Rheenendal area.
An alternative pump is being sourced, and the service providers will be engaged tomorrow, Monday 19 May.
Further details regarding the outcomes will be shared following these engagements. Two water trucks continue to operate in the region to ensure residents have access to water during this period.
The joint operations centre says in Knysna, operations are progressing according to schedule, as per the commitment from the appointed service provider.
The replacement pump was expected to arrive at approximately 11:00 today, after which installation will begin immediately. System normalisation is expected to occur progressively over the following two to four days.
Water tankers remain operational across affected areas, and the operations centre will continue to provide regular updates regarding the specific zones being serviced, as well as on the number of trucks deployed.
The following areas are currently experiencing critically low water levels:
- Brenton-on-Sea
- Noetzie
- Bigai
- Sunridge
Residents in these areas are urgently requested to reduce water consumption to allow storage levels to stabilise and recover. The centre is actively monitoring and managing the situation.
Health and safety
As of 08:00 today, 18 May, the Garden Route District Health unit has confirmed that no cases of waterborne disease have been reported at local clinics.
"Thank you to all residents for your patience, understanding, and continued co-operation during this time.
"Due to ongoing pressure on local reservoirs, additional areas have been added to the water distribution zones. A revised and consolidated list of these areas will be provided in the next scheduled update," the centre says.
The joint operations centre is co-ordinating multi-agency efforts to overcome the water supply challenges in the Greater Knysna area.
