KNYSNA NEWS - The Southern Cape Police’s spokesperson, Warrant Officer Chris Spies, has confirmed that the body of a 56-year-old woman was recovered from the rocks at Coney Glen on Thursday 30 July.

The Knysna Police have opened an inquest docket. According to Spies, they were called to the parking area at the Knysna Heads at about 14:00 on Wednesday 29 July, after an abandoned vehicle and a set of keys were discovered.

“A search for the driver was launched in the area with the assistance of a private drone,” said Spies. The woman’s body was subsequently located among the rocks, prompting a recovery operation on Thursday morning.

The operation involved the South African Police Service, police divers, EMS, Knysna Forensic Pathology Services, the Air Mercy Service (AMS), the National Sea Rescue Institute (NSRI) and Allsound Security.

The police have not released the woman’s identity, pending the notification of her next of kin. “The circumstances surrounding this matter are under investigation,” Spies said.
