NATIONAL NEWS - Sassa, which administers more than 19 million social grants across South Africa, has announced the following payment dates for August:
- Older Persons Grant: Tuesday, 4 August
- Disability Grant: Wednesday, 5 August
- Children's Grants: Thursday, 6 August
The agency encourages beneficiaries to wait for their allocated payment date before collecting their grants.
Current Sassa grant amounts
The current monthly grant amounts are:
- Older Persons Grant (60–74 years): R2 315
- Older Persons Grant (75 years and older): R2 335
- Disability Grant: R2 315
- War Veterans Grant: R2 315
- Care Dependency Grant: R2 315
- Child Support Grant: R560
- Foster Care Grant: R1 250
- Social Relief of Distress (SRD) Grant: R370
Some beneficiaries will be paid on a fourth payment day
Sassa has reminded beneficiaries that those selected for grant reviews or eLife Certification will not receive their payments during the normal three-day payment cycle.
Instead, their grants will be paid on a fourth payment day.
Sassa national spokesperson Dr Paseka Letsatsi said the agency has noted that some beneficiaries become concerned when they do not receive their grants on the usual payment dates, despite having been informed that their payments would be processed on the fourth day.
Beneficiaries urged to check their grant status
Sassa advises beneficiaries who have been notified of a grant review or eLife Certification process to check their payment status and ensure they comply with all requirements to avoid unnecessary delays.
The agency also reminds beneficiaries that there is no need to withdraw all grant money on the first day of payment, as funds remain safely available in their accounts until they are needed.
Sassa urges beneficiaries to respond to review notifications
Sassa national spokesperson Dr Paseka Letsatsi said the agency sends bulk SMS notifications to beneficiaries who have been selected for grant reviews or eLife Certification before their payments are moved to the fourth payment day.
Beneficiaries are urged not to ignore these notifications and to ensure that their contact details remain up to date so they do not miss important communication from the agency.
Failure to complete reviews could lead to grant suspension
Sassa has warned that beneficiaries who receive payment on the fourth payment day but fail to complete the required grant review or eLife Certification process may have their grants suspended during the next payment cycle.
The agency emphasised that grant reviews are conducted in accordance with the Social Assistance Act to verify that beneficiaries continue to qualify for financial assistance.
The review process also helps prevent payments to deceased or ineligible beneficiaries, detect fraud and safeguard public funds.
