KNYSNA NEWS - Orthopaedic surgeon and accomplished racing driver Dr Mike Verrier returned to the national motorsport scene at the 6 Hours of Killarney meeting at Killarney International Raceway on Saturday 1 August.

Although the event formed the third round of the South African Endurance Series (Saes), Verrier competed in the sports and GT support races - three action-packed sprint races that served as the curtain-raiser to the prestigious six-hour endurance event.

Driving his striking modified BMW Z4, powered by a 7L Chevrolet LS7 V8 engine producing around 500 brake horsepower, Verrier faced a competitive field throughout the day. He crossed the finish line in 10th place in the opening race, and in a closely contested second race he finished in 11th place. His third outing was cut short after his car sustained damage, forcing him to retire before the finish.

The BMW Z4 is the same car in which Verrier has campaigned successfully at the Simola Hillclimb in Knysna, where its powerful American V8 engine and distinctive performance have made it a crowd favourite.

Despite a challenging weekend at Killarney, Verrier once again flew the flag for Knysna in national motorsport and will be hoping for better fortunes when he returns to the circuit later this season.
