GARDEN ROUTE NEWS - Residents can expect a mix of sunshine, clouds and possible showers, with cooler conditions along parts of the coast on Sunday 8 November.
The residents across the Garden Route and Klein Karoo can expect a noticeably cooler and unsettled weekend, with cloudy skies, periods of rain and a significant dip in daytime temperatures on Saturday.
The change will be particularly noticeable inland, where towns that have experienced warm conditions during the week can expect a much cooler Saturday before temperatures start climbing again on Sunday.
According to the South African Weather Service (Saws), Friday brings a 30% chance of isolated rainfall along parts of the southern coastline.
The weather outlook for Sunday also indicates a possibility of isolated showers along sections of the coast, although the conditions are expected to improve in several areas.
The latest forecast from the Norwegian Meteorological Institute also points to a distinctly cooler Saturday, with temperatures recovering in parts of the region on Sunday.
Friday: Cloudy skies and possible showers
Friday is expected to start relatively mild, with cloud cover across much of the coastal region. There should be some sunny intervals, but showers are possible during the afternoon and evening, particularly around George, Knysna and Plettenberg Bay.
Riversdale can expect cloudy conditions, with a predicted high of approximately 24°C. The temperature in Mossel Bay is expected to reach around 22°C, while George could see a high of 22°C to 24°C. Knysna is forecast to reach 22°C to 23°C, with Plettenberg Bay around 22°C.

Further inland, Oudtshoorn should remain warmer, with temperatures reaching 25°C to 26°C. However, showers cannot be ruled out, and the town could see some cloud building during the day.
A southwesterly wind is expected in several coastal areas, adding to the changeable conditions.
Saturday: A noticeable temperature drop
Saturday looks set to be the coolest day of the weekend, particularly along the coast and in the inland valleys. Cloudy conditions and showers are expected in places, with the possibility of rain around George, Knysna and Plettenberg Bay. Riversdale and Mossel Bay should also experience considerably cooler conditions.
Daytime temperatures are forecast to fall to approximately 18°C in Riversdale, 19°C in Mossel Bay, 16°C to 18°C in George, around 18°C to 19°C in Knysna and approximately 19°C in Plettenberg Bay.
Oudtshoorn will also feel the difference, with the maximum temperature expected to drop to around 17°C to 18°C.
This represents a substantial change from the warmer conditions experienced earlier in the week, particularly inland.

A cooler southwesterly airflow is expected to contribute to the drop in temperatures. Residents planning outdoor activities should keep an eye on the changing conditions, as periods of rain and cloud could make it feel colder than the recorded temperatures suggest.
Sunday: Sunshine returns, but the wind remains a factor
Sunday should bring an improvement in conditions across much of the region, with longer sunny spells expected. The Saws outlook still indicates a 30% chance of isolated showers along parts of the southern coastline, so a completely dry day cannot be guaranteed.
Riversdale could see temperatures climb to approximately 23°C, while Mossel Bay is expected to reach around 22°C. George should remain cooler, with a predicted high of 18°C to 20°C. Knysna and Plettenberg Bay can expect temperatures in the low 20s, and sunny conditions may develop.
In Oudtshoorn, the temperature is expected to recover to 22°C to 26°C, with considerably better conditions for outdoor activities than on Saturday.
One factor to watch on Sunday will be the wind. The Saws outlook indicates stronger winds along parts of the southern coastline, which could make conditions feel cooler, particularly near the sea.

A weekend of changing conditions
The weekend’s weather will be a reminder of how quickly conditions can change between the coast and the Klein Karoo.
While Saturday is expected to bring the biggest drop in temperatures, Sunday should offer more sunshine and a welcome recovery in several areas.
Those planning weekend outings, travelling between the coastal towns or heading inland are advised to allow for changing weather conditions and check the latest forecasts before setting off.
