RHEENENDAL & SEDGEFIELD NEWS - While citizens of the greater Knysna await the official election results to determine which political party will govern Knysna, preliminary, unofficial voting figures indicate that the DA has secured victories in several wards in Sedgefield, as well as strong support in the outlying voting districts of Rheenendal.
According to unofficial results accumulated so far, the DA has won wards 1, 2, 9 and 10 in Sedgefield.
In Rheenendal, Ward 5, which comprises five voting stations districts - three in the outlying areas of Brenton-on-Sea, Belvidere and Buffalo Bay, and two within the Rheenendal community - unofficial figures indicate that the DA secured more than 70% of the vote across the three outlying voting districts.
This excludes the two voting districts within Rheenendal itself, where the voting figures are considered separately.
The PA has also reportedly recorded strong support in parts of Rheenendal, with preliminary figures indicating that the party is contesting the DA’s support in some voting districts. However, the specific wards or voting districts where the PA has recorded these results could not yet be confirmed.
While the preliminary figures are an indication of voter support across these areas, the final allocation of seats and the political composition of Knysna Municipality will depend on the official results.
Readers are reminded that these figures are unofficial and based on preliminary information. The Independent Electoral Commission (IEC) is expected to release the official election results later today.
