KNYSNA NEWS - The Democratic Alliance (DA) appears to have won seven wards in the Knysna Municipality, while the African National Congress (ANC) appears to have won four, according to preliminary, unofficial election results.
Jason White, the DA Knysna Constituency's current caucus and finance chairperson, confirmed that the DA retained wards 1, 2, 5, 9 and 10.
White said the DA had gained wards 6 and 11, both of which previously belonged to the ANC.
The ANC secured wards 3, 4 and 8 and was leading in ward 7, where counting was still under way at the time of reporting.
According to the preliminary information available, KIM, UPPA, Knysna First, Choose CX, the Patriotic Alliance (PA) and the South African Communist Party (SACP) have not secured any outright ward victories.
However, White noted that the allocation of 10 proportional representation (PR) seats still needs to be finalised.
These seats could influence the final composition of the Knysna municipal council.
Readers are reminded that these figures are unofficial and based on preliminary information. The Independent Electoral Commission (IEC) is expected to release the official results later today.
