Update
PLETTENBERG BAY NEWS - Not much has changed in the ward councillor representation in Bitou, as the incumbents in the present Bitou Council retain their seats.
The DA retained ward councillors in wards 1 (Jessica Kamkam), 2 (Dave Swart) and 7 (Kranshoek)(Annelise Olivier).
Ward 4 was retained by the PDC’s Claude Terblanche.
The ANC also retained its wards: Ward 3 (Thembela Mhlana), Ward 5 (Samkele Mangxaba) and Ward 6 (Nokuthula Seti).
The overall turnout in the Bitou voting area was low according to a council source, except for Ward 2. The FF Plus (Helen Ward, Ward 2) showed some inroads in this ward, but Dave Swart retained his seat with a sizeable majority.
In Ward 3, Mhlana faced some competition from the IPM, the party of the present Bitou deputy mayor, Nokuzola Kolwapi.
Much now depends on the outcome of proportional representation (PR) votes to determine the final make-up of the Council.
There are six PR councillors. Previously, the DA held two PR seats, and the other parties, the ANC, PA, AUF and IPM, one each.
Indications are that the FF Plus might secure a PR seat.
