SEDGEFIELD NEWS - A long-held dream has become a reality for The Living Cornerstone (TLC), thanks to the donation of a wheelchair-accessible vehicle that will make medical visits safer and more convenient for residents.
TLC is a registered non-profit organisation (NPO) providing specialised residential care for elderly and frail people living with dementia, including Alzheimer's disease. More than a conventional old age home, it operates as a care facility and charitable organisation, supporting some of the community's most vulnerable residents.
Having its own transport has long been on the organisation's project list. Besides facilitating medical appointments, it will also help with moving equipment for fundraising activities.
The project began taking shape after one of TLC's stakeholders approached the organisation about a company interested in donating. The vehicle underwent nine months of restoration, including bodywork and mechanical repairs, before passing its roadworthy test and being delivered to the facility.
Its wheelchair lift is a particularly valuable feature, making it easier to accommodate residents with mobility challenges.
Facility manager Marietjie Digue described the donation as a blessing and thanked everyone who contributed to making the project possible.
She also acknowledged the contributions of Simola Hotel and Country Club, Tyremart Knysna, Spotless Classics, Tranacon, Dr Andy Brough, Meg Isherwood, Steel and Pipes George, RE/MAX Coastal and Sedgefield Lions.
Help TLC complete the project
Although the vehicle has been delivered, TLC still needs to settle outstanding project expenses. The organisation is appealing to the community, local businesses and potential donors to help cover these costs and bring the project to full financial completion.
Every contribution will make a difference in ensuring that this valuable resource can continue serving TLC's residents and supporting the organisation's work.
