Update
RHEENENDAL NEWS - Tensions have intensified in Rheenendal as residents took to the streets again last night Wednesday 14 May, this time blocking the main road to Keurhoek and Bibbies Hoek with burning logs and wood in protest over an ongoing water supply issue that has now persisted for eight days.
This latest demonstration follows Tuesday’s protest, during which residents used wheelie bins filled with rubbish to obstruct the main street.
Locals say their actions are a desperate plea for urgent attention from the authorities.
A resident told Knysna-Plett Herald that, beyond the persisting water outage, they have also urged the Knysna Municipality to address a worsening sanitation issue caused by blocked drains, which is contributing to a foul stench in the area.
Police are currently monitoring the situation. An inquiry has been sent to the Knysna Municipality, and their response will be published once received.
Residents say they will continue protesting until their concerns are addressed.
