KNYSNA NEWS - An eastern Free State farm owner has offered his home for free to a Knysna fire victim.
Bill Guiney is offering a legitimate fire victim a free lease for a year in what he calls the "very pleasant eastern Free State".
"This farmhouse (and yard) was occupied by my late father until recently. The agricultural lands are cultivated by Gerrit Higgo and his family.
According to Guiney, the property is available for occupation for one year and occupation details will be finalised in a standard written lease.
"Rent-free on condition that the occupier pays the full electricity account every month of occupation, and that the occupier takes care of any maintenance to the property/erf, and looks after the garden (lawns etc.)," Guiney states.
"The period of occupation will initially be for 12 months and at this stage there are not any reasons why this can not be extended by mutual agreement."
He says the location is 10 minutes from Clocolan town via the R708, Setsoto municipality.
The setting is a large north, northeast-facing house and other buildings, set against a sandstone mountain to the east.
Power comes from Eskom (Setsoto municipality) and water from two boreholes (one windmill, one electric pump).
There is also a large plastered brick reservoir near to house with third borehole and a rainwater collection tank outside the main house rear veranda.
The main house is dressed sandstone surrounded by terraced gardens and mature trees.
It has two lounges, a dining room, separate kitchen, five bedrooms including an upstairs master bedroom with its own bathroom and sitting room above a double car garage.
There is a workshop, several garages, an electric chiller room and a separate cold room.

There is also a workshop, several garages, electric chiller room and separate cold room (brick). Two of the bedrooms are contained in rondavel bedrooms.
A tennis court and thatched dressed sandstone lapa and swimming pool are included in this property.
The yard is contained/surrounded by electric security fence with gates.
The land use is agricultural and pastoral land farmed on lease by a local farmer yielding an annual crop of maize, sunflowers, beans and cattle. – Supplied
