Update
KNYSNA NEWS - Angelique Fourie, 2022 Miss Earth SA second runner-up, is continuing to champion the environment's cause this year as she is competing in the competition again.
On her quest to better last year's outcome, Angelique has been as busy as a bee, carrying out various welfare projects in the last month.
Angelique was a hard worker during her Miss Earth SA campaign last year too, but unfortunately for her and her many supporters in Knysna and the Garden Route, at the grand final she was named not the winner but the second runner-up.
Determined to improve on last year's result, Angelique re-entered Miss Earth SA again this year hoping to make an even bigger impact through her 2023 campaign.
"Entering Miss Earth SA again this year was a no-brainer to me. After learning so much last year I realised that in order to keep making an impact and fighting against the hunger crisis and environmental issues in South Africa we need to be resilient," she said.
"My entering again is a show of dedication and resilience in the fight, that I will keep working at it and keep inspiring and teaching young earthlings about our mission and how they can make an impact, no matter what it takes, and no matter how small. We can all be the change."

Angelique's dedication to the cause is further evidenced in the handful of projects she has led and carried out in the past five weeks. In this time she has carried out two different tree-planting initiatives - one at Fraaisig Primary School where she planted 11 trees alongside Knysna Networking, the other where she planted 10 trees at the Learning Tree Pre-Primary School in Hornlee.
Next, Angelique collected and donated non-perishable and perishable food to Hope Soup Kitchen in Dam se Bos, where volunteers helped her dish out food to the community.
In addition, she helped to set up and plant a vegetable garden for the soup kitchen. Lastly and most recently, Angelique donated more than 100 non-perishable food items to the Epilepsy SA South Cape/Karoo branch on Monday 17 July.
Soon she will find out, along with her fellow Miss Earth SA contestants, just who has made the cut for the competition's semi-final stage.
