Update
KNYSNA NEWS - In the wake of Mandla Tyololo's acquittal last week, the former Knysna Taxi Forum secretary's attorney believes his client should be compensated for being arrested and spending two years in holding cells.
Tyololo, who was taken into custody and charged with conspiracy to commit murder in 2018 after Knysna councillor Victor Molosi's killing, was acquitted of all charges against him by the Knysna Regional Court on Tuesday last week.
Molosi was gunned down near his home in Concordia, Knysna on 23 July 2018 and the three men charged with his murder - former Ward 4 Councillor Velile Waxa, former municipal official Mawande Makhala and Cape Town resident Vela Patrick Dumile - were convicted on 11 December last year.
Talking to Knysna-Plett Herald on Monday, Tyololo's lawyer Bulelane Bans said his client's life will never be the same again. "When he was arrested he was a healthy man, now he has hypertension and depression. He spent 752 days in prison and his life was ruined. He lost all his things when his house burnt down while he was in prison," Bans stated.
Bans added that it is not clear if or how Tyololo will be able to rebuild his life and house and believes his client must be compensated for the suffering he endured.
"Should we get instructions from Tyololo we will sue the State," he said.
Soon after his client's release last week, said Bans, Tyololo called his family in the Eastern Cape who booked a bus for him to go and visit them. According to the lawyer, Tyololo might consider getting back into the taxi industry upon his return to Knysna, as he is still a member of the association.
