KNYSNA NEWS - Some of the new learners from Knysna Primary School were asked how they felt about going to school and the overwhelming sentiment was one of great excitement.
Knysna mayor Eleanore Bouw-Spies paid a visit to some of the schools in the greater Knysna on the day they opened, 17 January.
First on her list was Brackenhill Primary School, which has a total of 65 learners and three grades (Grades 1 to 3) in one classroom.

Although all these learners are in one classroom, each class has a teacher and a teaching assistant to maintain order and ensure productivity.
School principal Denis Jantjies said, "We're excited about this year. We have a few things we're hoping to do this year, like being involved in sports for the first time. We're hoping to change that this year."
One of the challenges the school is facing is not having internet, but Jantjies said they hope to fix it this year as they now have electricity in their community, after many years of living without.
"More than anything, we're looking forward to offering these learners the best," said Jantjies.
Next on the mayor's itinerary was Percy Mdala High School where she also met some of the members from the Department of Education after their meeting with the principal.
Bouw-Spies also visited Concordia High School and she undertook to visit more schools this year.
