Aubrey Tsengwa Murder: Two suspects to appear in court today on conspiracy to murder charges

KNYSNA NEWS - The Office of the Western Cape Provincial Commissioner, Lt. General Sizakhele William Dyantyi, has confirmed that the investigation into the assassination of former Knysna mayor and Ward 8 councillor Aubrey Tsengwa (47) has moved a step closer to establishing a possible motive, following the arrest of two suspects on charges of conspiracy to commit murder.

The arrests form part of the ongoing investigation into Tsengwa’s fatal shooting on Wednesday evening, 19 August.

According to Western Cape police spokesperson Brigadier Novela Potelwa, the two men, aged 39 and 46, were apprehended on Saturday, 22 August by a team comprising Serious Violent Crime (SVC) detectives, Crime Intelligence, local police, the combat team and the drone unit.

The suspects were charged after being questioned by police and are expected to appear in the Knysna Magistrate’s Court today, Monday, 24 August.

As part of the investigation, police seized two vehicles, three firearms and several cellular phones.

“The search for more suspects continues, with investigators setting their sights on further arrests,” Potelwa said.

Police believe the ongoing investigation could shed light on the motive behind the shooting, which claimed Tsengwa’s life and left three other people wounded. Knysna police subsequently registered a case of murder and three cases of attempted murder.

Police have not disclosed further details regarding the alleged conspiracy or the identities of the two accused. The investigation remains ongoing.
