BUSINESS NEWS - The Simola Hillclimb has been voted Best Event Organiser in the Best of Knysna & Plett Readers’ Choice Awards for the second year running.
For four days every autumn, we ask a great deal of this town and the Garden Route: closed public roads, noise, traffic and several thousand visitors in a place that does perfectly well without them for most of the other 361 days. And every year, Knysna says yes.
A vote from the people who live with the disruption means more than any motorsport award.
In 2026, just under 21 000 people came through the gates; 55% from beyond the Garden Route. They booked 23 479 paid room nights and generated an independently modelled R62.47m impact through Knysna suppliers, vendors, contractors and volunteers.
Simola is the fastest hillclimb in the world - a course record averaging over 200km/h - on a public road minutes from town.
What we like best is the families returning to the same spot on the bank every year. Under-12s come in free and always have.
