Their donation included an assortment of beautiful quilts, made with care and passion to brighten up anyone's life. Instead of giving these to the children in the safe house, Mahlulo and Mainwaring decided to take them to the soup kitchen and give them to poverty-stricken adults who suffer from illness.
Every day, seven people receive food, supplied by Lukhanyiso, at the soup kitchen in an effort to build up their physical strength and to enable them to take their prescribed medications which may not be taken on an empty stomach. The receivers of the quilts were absolutely amazed and overwhelmed by such a special gift and the knowledge that ladies in Knysna thought of them and took the time and effort to create gifts of such beauty.
"This sort of gesture helps to build hope and encouragement in people who were hopeless before and it gives them determination to press on in life," said Mainwairing. "Thank you to all the ladies of the Pins and Kneedles Quilting Group."
