"This day has been decided upon as an addition to the annual Emergency Sports Day in which the different departments compete against each other, with the sole purpose to improve inter-departmental relations between different departments. Therefore, Saturday’s event involved the families of personnel to have the same experience," said Terrence Kramer, Emergency Services Sports Day coordinator.
"It was the first of its sort and the organisers believe it was a great success. The purpose of this event was also achieved," said Constable Chris Spies, SAPS media liaison officer.
The emergency and essential services’ personnel who participated in this event were from the Knysna SAPS, Knysna Municipality (Fire, Traffic and Law Enforcement departments), Knysna Provincial Hospital, Department of Correctional Services, Provincial Traffic, Pathology Services and SANParks.
All the participants enjoyed playing netball and rugby. The Knysna Municipality was victorious in both the matches.
Knysna Municipality’s netball team won its match 24 - 18 against Knysna SAPS, while the municipality’s rugby team beat Knysna SAPS 37 - 5.
The Emergency Services’ original annual sports day was held on Wednesday, October 26, also at the Knysna High School sports ground.
The Knysna SAPS’s rugby team (blue) played a tough match against the Knysna Municipality (yellow and green).
