GARDEN ROUTE NEWS - This year's Southern Cape golfing tour, now in its 40th year, was a major success, says organiser Leroux Delport.
Each year a group of about 40 golfers from across South Africa descend onto golf courses along the Garden Route, playing in Mossel Bay, Plettenberg Bay, Knysna and George.
"It was an exceptional tour - the accommodation was fantastic and we braaied and enjoyed the camaraderie. It was a privilege to play these top courses," said Delport, "and it was a great privilege to see everyone again."
Friendships
The tour was started in 1986 by Deon Ollewagen, Johan Slabbert and two colleagues from the then Bakke in Paarl.
Wynand Deysel (this was his 38th tour) and his father Willie from Stilbaai (then from Williston) joined the group.
The aim of the tour is to create an opportunity for friends and family from various parts of South Africa to cement their friendships, while at the same time competing for 10 trophies and medals.
