PLETTENBERG BAY NEWS - Main Street in Plettenberg Bay became a hub of horsepower as women bikers from the region converged on 17 January to celebrate the official South African launch of the Women Riders World Relay (WRWR).
The event marked the start of a year-long global initiative aimed at uplifting and connecting women motorcyclists around the world.
Colette Dart, a real estate agent with Plett Realty and the South African ambassador for WRWR 2026, hosted the launch of the global relay year.
Dozens of bikes rolled into town in formation with the echo of engines signifying the pride of being part of a growing international sisterhood.
"Riding into town surrounded by women who understand the freedom of the road was indescribable. It was more than a ride - it was a statement," said Dart.
Empowerment
The WRWR initiative highlights visibility, community and empowerment in a space that has long been dominated by men. For some, the relay represents adventure and connection; for others, it offers a significant moment of recognition.
"The launch served as a reminder that women riders are not only present - they are evolving, expanding, and redefining the motorcycling landscape," said Dart.
The WRWR relay will continue throughout 2026, passing through multiple countries as part of a global chain of riders exchanging a symbolic baton.
"If the energy of the Plettenberg Bay launch is any indication, the year ahead promises momentum, unity, and a whole lot of unforgettable moments!" said Dart.
