KNYSNA NEWS - A four-day trial is set to take place from 20 to 23 April in connection with the murder of Knysna taxi driver Ricardo de Vos.
De Vos was brutally killed on 23 February 2025, and three male suspects were arrested on the same morning on charges of murder.
All three suspects have since been released on bail pending the trial.
As previously reported by the Knysna-Plett Herald, Knysna detectives opened a murder investigation following De Vos' death after he sustained multiple injuries during an altercation. He was transported to hospital but was declared dead on arrival.
Southern Cape police spokesperson Warrant Officer Chris Spies confirmed at the time that the investigation was ongoing and that further details could not be disclosed.
De Vos was reportedly off duty on the night of the incident but had allowed another driver to use his taxi.
The driver invited De Vos to Ngoma Night Club in central Knysna, where they planned to transport commuters to Concordia and surrounding areas.
The suspects, allegedly from Hornlee, reportedly attempted to take control of the taxi. A dispute over taxi fare ensued and escalated into violence, during which De Vos was assaulted and struck with a brick.
The suspects allegedly fled the scene through nearby bushes.
Elize Gallant, sister of De Vos, said few witnesses have come forward due to fears for their safety. "He was only doing his job. We are seeking closure and appeal to anyone with information to come forward," Gallant pleaded.
