PLETTENBERG BAY NEWS - Endeavours to rid communities of firearms and dangerous weapons that threaten the safety of society once again yielded positive results in Plettenberg Bay this week.
Two suspects were apprehended and made their first appearance in the Plettenberg Bay Magistrate's Court on Wednesday 25 November, after an unlicensed firearm and a knife were found in their possession.
According to Southern Cape police spokesperson Sgt Chris Spies, members of the Plettenberg Bay sector teams were conducting hotspot patrols at Marine Way on Monday 23 November at about 22:20 when they noticed two men next to the road. One of them was acting suspiciously.
"They stopped the pair and upon searching them the police found a 9mm Rambo handgun as well as a knife in their possession. The suspects, aged 32 and 29, were arrested on charges of possession of an unlicensed firearm and possession of a dangerous weapon respectively," said Spies.
In another incident, vigilant members on patrol recovered a stolen motorcycle in the early hours of Tuesday 24 November.
"The members swiftly responded to information received from the public," said Spies. "A member of the public alerted the police about suspicious activity in the bushes near Signal Hill. The members responded and upon searching the area they found the motorcycle hidden in the bushes. A 40-year-old suspect was arrested on charges of possession of stolen property."
