KNYSNA NEWS - A new board for the Vermont Old Aged Home in Hornlee, Knysna, has been elected, bringing an end to a stand-off between two parallel boards that had continued since 2022.
One of the boards had reportedly managed the financial affairs of the home, and the other its operations.
The new board was chosen at a packed meeting of members of the home, held at the Old Town Hall on Thursday 14 November.
After views on how the voting for a single board should proceed were repeatedly aired from the floor, members supporting each of the boards finally agreed on a process to register all members present as voters.
This agreement was reached in no small part due to the exceptional organisational and mediation skills of the station manager of Eden FM, Morné Pietersen.
'Honesty, integrity'
After nominations from the floor, voting for the chairman, vice-chairman, secretary, deputy secretary, and treasurer of the new board then went smoothly.
Werner Erasmus-Le Grange became chairman, Murro-Wayne Spies vice-chairman, Erylene Levendal-Bosman secretary, Chanté Williams deputy secretary, and Elrick van Aswegen treasurer.
Erasmus-Le Grange emphasised that the new board's primary role was meeting the needs of those cared for at the home, and said the board would carry out its duties "with honesty, integrity and transparency".
