KNYSNA NEWS - Police have confirmed that the rumour currently spreading on social media that a second body was retrieved from the Khayalethu water reservoir is untrue.
Following recent reporting in national news outlets of a man's body being recovered from the water reservoir in Khayalethu, some members of the public have misinterpreted the news to mean a second body was found in addition to the original body found on Sunday 26 November.
The national news outlets referenced the finding of a body during the cleaning of the dam, which is where the confusion amongst the public arose.
Initially, the body of a man was found in the reservoir by Knysna Municipality personnel on Sunday afternoon at about 16:00. Thereafter a draining and cleaning process was carried out by the municipality.
It was during this time that additional remains were found, but Southern Cape police spokesperson Sgt Chris Spies confirmed that these related to the initial body, not a second one.
"The rumors that another body was retrieved from the reservoir are unfounded. I confirm that the forensic team returned to the area in order to collect items associated with the initial recovery of the body from the water," Spies said this morning, Saturday 2 December.
