They were selected from players of South Africa, Namibia and Zimbabwe, says a proud father, Ralie Dippenaar.
It looks like history is repeating itself, since Chrisna’s mother also represented South Africa as part of a team touring Taiwan in 1982, and later played netball for Boland. Chrisna, her mother and her elder sister, Rouxlene (SWD netball) all as defenders.
Says Tanya’s father, Deon Nel: "We are of course very excited about this opportunity, and so is my daughter. I think it is a privilege for her to be nominated for something like this."
Rugby player
Geswindt, who lives in Knysna and attends PW Botha College in George, is also one of the top players of the @tlantic Sevens Schools rugby team. His goal is to become an international rugby player one day. Geswindt believes that this opportunity to tour to Portugal and be a part of the u/19 World Sport Barbarians’ rugby team, is a step in the right direction to realise his rugby dreams.
The World Sport Barbarians was established in 2010 to provide school learners who participate in sports such as rugby, netball and hockey with an opportunity to compete and be recognised for their abilities, on merit, regardless of their background or school.
Each year the World Sport Barbarians choose u/19 teams, including u/14, u/15 and u/16 teams to travel abroad. These players play three matches.
Although this is a great opportunity for the three learners, they each need to raise R25 000 on their own to cover their trip to Portugal.
These youngsters make an appeal to the public to help them to make their dreams a reality by donating money. Even the smallest donation will be much appreciated.
Donations can be made to:
C Dippenaar: ABSA Bank, savings account 924 768 2804.
T Nell: FNB Knysna, savings account 621 539 80985.
Persons who wishes to help Geswindt can contact him on 083 664 7609.
