The 10km fun ride took the riders through the local farm lands and the Leeuwenbosch Dairy. The 30km riders went beyond that and into the indigenous forests of the magnificent Homtini, part of Garden Route National Parks. The more serious Sedgefield Cycleworx 60km and 120km entrants endured an extra 30km in Millwood around the Cape Pine plantations.
The 120km two-day event was won by Matthys Beukes of George, this year’s African jersey winner at the Cape Epic, and the ladies category was won by Hannele Steyn. The junior boys category was won by Jason Campbell.
Garden Route Events race director Pax Mosterd said that next year’s event will take place over a long weekend and include a camping option as well as a night ride.
The organisers thank Leeuwenbosch Dairy, Sedgefield Cycle Worx and Powerade for their generous sponsorships and making the event possible; Knysna Fruit & Veg City for fantastic and delicious lucky draws; Lions and Sedgefield Striders members who helped as marshals and water point crew; the Knysna Sports School which contributed enormously to the marking and clearing; Keurhoek Neighbourhood Watch which assisted with security; and Julie Anne Photography.
