KNYSNA NEWS - The Knysna Yacht Club launched its 115th opening cruise with pomp and pageantry on Sunday, drawing together sailors, sea lovers and spectators for a day that celebrated tradition and the spirit of the local boating community.
Blessed with glorious spring weather, the Knysna Lagoon provided the perfect backdrop for the ceremonial sail-past and salute to Commodore Ken Reynolds.
The morning buzzed with activity as a colourful fleet assembled, including keelboats, powerboats, dinghies and canoes, joined by members of the NSRI, Seahorse Swimmers, TS Knysna Sea Cadets and other community groups.
The formal salute was a highlight, paying tribute to the commodore in a moment of maritime tradition.
As the day unfolded, the keelboats enjoyed a relaxed raft-up at Featherbed Nature Reserve, where ideal conditions allowed crews to revel in the scenic surroundings.
Closer to shore, the dinghy sailors turned up the tempo with a lively race that drew cheers and applause from spectators lining the waterfront.
Back at the club, a festive atmosphere took hold. Families, friends and visitors mingled on the grounds, enjoying refreshments, sunshine and social interaction.
"The turnout and spirit of this year's Opening Cruise was just incredible. It's a beautiful reminder of the strong community we have here, both on and off the water," said Reynolds.
The event starts off what promises to be a memorable 115th summer season for the Knysna Yacht Club.
