KNYSNA HOCKEY NEWS - The men's and ladies hockey teams of Old Oaks Knysna Hockey Club remained undefeated on the Eden district table in last weekend's action. Securing their fourth consecutive victories, both teams remain at the top of the table.
Both teams played their matches on Saturday 29 May, with the ladies facing off against the Crusaders Ladies 2 side at the York High School astro in George, launching the day's games at 12:30.
The men's team took on Leopards at the Oakhill Sports Campus in Knysna, in a potential top-of-the-table clash.
Although still cold and windy as ever at York, they had much better weather than their comrades in Knysna. The Old Oaks women got the game off to a great start with Ella Kent converting a penalty corner to put them up 1-0. Crusaders rallied back well, using their pace on and off the ball, managing to equalise with just under five minutes left in the first quarter.

Their respite didn't last long, however, as Old Oaks took the lead once again with a goal from Charné de Wet.
The second quarter was far quieter, with Christine Snyman scoring a solitary goal to see Old Oaks lead 3-1 at half-time. The third quarter would be much of the same, with Crusaders fighting back to 3-2. Old Oaks eventually put the game to bed in the fourth quarter with a goal from Donné de Wet to secure a 4-2 win.
This sees them five points ahead of Crusaders Ladies 1 (second) and Quarry (third).
Starting at 14:00, the men's match in Knysna was played in mainly cold and wet weather, interspersed with the occasional sunshine. Control of the game kept alternating between Old Oaks and Leopards.
The visitors from George started the game with the ball, and from the onset it was evident that no side would dominate the entire 60 minutes.

Throughout the first two quarters both sides enjoyed their fair share of chances, but every time their attackers would either be unable to finish the move or the opposition's defence would stand strong.
The deadlock was finally broken in the third quarter, with Old Oaks taking the lead with a goal from Sean McKenzie. Leopards refused to give up and pushed Old Oaks' defence right up to the final moments, but ultimately the Knysna side walked away with bragging rights.
