KNYSNA NEWS - The popular annual Interclub Regatta, hosted by the Knysna Yacht Club, will take place on the Knysna lagoon on 8 and 9 February.
"The Knysna Yacht Club is thrilled to announce the return of its highly anticipated Interclub Regatta," the club said.
"This prestigious event has been contested since 1954, bringing together various clubs from the region and attracting a sizable fleet of racing boats from both dinghy and cat classes."
Neighbouring clubs
The KYC will be welcoming neighbouring clubs, including the George Lakes Yacht Club, the Mossel Bay Sailing Club, and Gqeberha's Redhouse Yacht Club, for the exciting regatta.
"These clubs will compete for the honour of being crowned the winning club in both senior and junior fleets," the KYC said.
Competition format
"The competition format involves a matched number of boats from each club across various fleets competing for the winning club, with individual boats racing on a handicap system, which further allows for an overall winner to be recognised in each fleet."
Last year's event, featuring 57 dinghies and cats, was a resounding success.
KYC victorious
The Knysna Yacht Club emerged victorious in the senior fast fleet and the cats, and they will be aiming to defend their title in what promises to be a fiercely contested event across all fleets.
The Interclub Regatta promises not only thrilling sailing but also great spectator value, creating a lively atmosphere both on and off the water.
Top sailors
The event showcases the best of local sailing talent, and features some of South Africa’s top sailors.
"We are excited to welcome sailors and spectators alike to our beautiful town of Knysna for an unforgettable weekend of racing, camaraderie, and fun," the KYC said.
"Join us in celebrating the spirit of sailing at the Knysna Yacht Club!"
