KNYSNA NEWS - The Knysna Cavaliers cricket club recorded a comprehensive 9-wicket victory against a spirited SWD U-19 side in Rheenendal on Saturday 12 October, to secure a place in the semi-finals of the SWD Twenty20 tournament, which will be played in Oudtshoorn this weekend.
SWD batted first and managed 117 runs for the loss of three wickets in their allotted 20 overs. Cameron Avontuur (34), Stefan May (24), Keano Coerecius (21) and Kurt Botha (19) did the bulk of the scoring for SWD.
JP Ellis, Francios Bonthuys and AB van der Walt bagged a wicket apiece for Cavaliers.
Cavaliers reached the target in the 18th over with only one wicket down due to some magnificent batting by Hayden Sweet (70*) and JP Ellis (46*). The duo plundered the bowlers to all parts of the park.
It's a fair assessment to say that Cavaliers never got out of second gear and could've belted the score much earlier if they wanted to. Ellis and Sweet got some valuable time in the middle which bodes well for their upcoming semi-final this weekend at the REC in Oudtshoorn.
