KNYSNA NEWS - Students from the Greater Knysna municipal area who want to further their studies next year but are struggling with registration money can now apply for the Knysna Municipality Mayoral Bursary Fund.
The municipality is inviting students who are currently studying at tertiary or TVET institutions, as well as Grade 12 learners, to apply for financial assistance to further their studies for the 2021 academic year.
Municipal spokesperson Christopher Bezuidenhoudt said this bursary fund has financially assisted hundreds of learners since its inception 12 years ago. "The funding of the learners depends on the municipality's financial status at the time," said Bezuidenhoudt.
"Anyone may apply for the bursary fund. Initially the main focus was on the poor and disadvantaged, however due to a shortage in many fields like engineering and medicine, we now consider all applications."
The fund covers only registration fees. Awards are restricted to South African citizens living within the Greater Knysna municipal area, for full-time study and attendance at SA Qualifications Authority-accredited tertiary or TVET institutions.
"Applicants must attach a detailed CV and cover letter; their Grade 12 results; letter of acceptance from a tertiary institution; latest examination results of students currently enrolled at tertiary institutions; certified copy of ID; affidavit of parents' combined income and proof of residential address.
"Only correct and fully completed applications will be considered. No late applications will be accepted," Bezuidenhoudt said.
Application forms are available at the municipal offices in Clyde Street or Youth Offices during normal office hours, and on the municipality's website.
The closing date for applications is 4 December 2020.
