KNYSNA NEWS - Michael Verrier, a race driver from Knysna, sped to the top of his class at the inaugural Speed Classic Cape Town, securing victory in the King of the Mountain event this past Sunday.
Behind the wheel of his sleek BMW Z4M, Verrier posted a blistering 41.312-second run up the iconic 1.8km Philip Kgosana Drive, beating the competition by nearly a full second.
Verrier's outstanding performance saw him finish 0.982 seconds ahead of Raynere Joubert, who piloted a Ford Mustang, while Mark Ridgway completed the top three with a 44.834-second time in his Owen Ashley V8 IPV8.
The Speed Classic Cape Town event, a prestigious invitation-only hillclimb competition, brought together more than 150 cars for an action-packed weekend.
The event kicked off on Saturday with the Classic Car races, leading into the King of the Mountain showdown on Sunday.
The hillclimb, set against the breathtaking backdrop of Table Mountain, captivated fans and participants, offering some of the most thrilling motorsport action to grace Cape Town's streets.
The event was a massive success, drawing nearly 15 000 spectators to Philip Kgosana Drive, while an impressive
180 000 fans from around the globe tuned in via livestream to witness the high-speed drama unfold.
