KNYSNA NEWS - Young wordsmiths from Knysna and Plettenberg Bay stole the spotlight at the provincial WOW Spelling Competition, turning heads with their impressive language skills and stage confidence.
Hosted at the Cape Peninsula University of Technology in Wellington, the event brought together top spellers from across the Western Cape, and local learners rose to the occasion in spectacular fashion.
With three finalists now heading to the national stage, the region is beaming with pride and excitement.
"It's not just about spelling; it's about language, confidence and opening up the world through words," said a Knysna Secondary teacher. "All the learners have put in a tremendous effort, and we couldn't be prouder."
Leading the local winners is Asemahle Mgole, a Grade Nine learner of Knysna Secondary, who took first place in her English category.
Her standout performance has earned her a spot at the WOW National Spelling Competition at Stellenbosch University, to take place on 11 October.
Joining her are two talented Grade Five learners: Zoë Asamoah of the KEC Academy, who placed second, and Abulele Peter of Formosa Primary in Plettenberg Bay, who placed third - both in the English category.
Other dedicated participants included Charisma Wildeman (Grade Eight, Afrikaans, Knysna High), Owami Mbele and Okhanya Oliphant (Grade Nine, English, Knysna High), Lwandla Duma (Grade Eight, English, Concordia High), Zayo-Shaan Mabank (Grade 10, Afrikaans, Knysna Secondary) and Fatou Diop (Grade Seven, English, Sunridge Primary).
