PLETTENBERG BAY NEWS - Leigh Dunn, a son of Plett and an executive member of the Van Plettenberg Historical Society, will delve into the history of the original inhabitants of the town at a presentation to be given on 12 March.
As a third-generation Plett resident with a family history dating back to 1891, his talk, 'The Sons of the Soil', will focus on who the real original inhabitants of Plett were.
He is a direct descendant of Captain Robert Charles Harker, who was Plett's first postmaster and magistrate and whose family is buried at the Harker graves in Poortjies, now a national heritage site.
Dunn's grandfather was Michael William Dunn, who in 1912 was appointed the first headmaster of the first multi-racial school in Plett, St Peter's Mission School.
Dunn will recount the history of New Horizons, with specific reference to his family, and reveal something about the venue he is speaking at, Formosa Garden Village.
He is an accredited educator, tutor, life coach and motivational speaker who has visited more than 12 countries and undertaken educational research in Belgium and the Netherlands.
He is often invited to give talks and guide local tours.
Date: 12 March 17:30 for 18:00
