KNYSNA NEWS - The SAPS management in Knysna welcomed the recent sentencing of Terrence Snyman (44) who killed his father in 2014.
The victim, Lesley Snyman (71), was reported missing by a family member at the time of the incident, and his burnt-out vehicle was subsequently found in the Knysna forest with human remains inside on 3 September 2014. Forensic analyses positively identified the remains as those of the father, and further investigation led to Snyman's arrest.
On 15 August, Snyman was sentenced in Knysna to 25 years' imprisonment on a charge of murder and a further five years for attempting to defeat the ends of justice.
In a statement, Knysna station commander Colonel Atwell Metu commended the investigation officer, Sergeant Fergus Paulsen, for his efforts to secure a watertight case.
“I hope this sentence sends out a stern warning to perpetrators involved in crimes against older persons and as well as domestic violence offenders. We also hope that the family of the deceased will derive strength from the fact that this matter was concluded. The family showed a lot of patience with the investigation and the lengthy trial.”
