KNYSNA NEWS - Many schoolgirls in the Knysna area are benefiting from a R4 000 gift from the Garden Route Motor Club (GRMC).
As has become customary, GRMC members have been dipping into their pockets towards a collection for others less fortunate since the end of last year and the decision was made to donate over R4 000 of feminine hygiene products to Knysna's Sister Sister project.
Sister Sister was founded in November 2015 by originator Ingrid Diesel who passed away last year, Knysna councillor Eleanor Bouw-Spies and Jill Simmons, the latter who commented: "We have been so overwhelmed by the kind donations of the Knysna public and organisations like GRMC… We do drop-offs to most of the schools in the Greater Knysna areas and Rheenendal. The response from the teachers at all of the schools is that it has been such a blessing to their learners and has certainly helped in keeping them in school," Simmons said.
"We would like to sincerely thank Peter Pretorius and all at GRMC for thinking of Sister Sister and assure you it is for a worthy cause."
GRMC and Knysna Motor Show (KMS) chair Peter Pretorius said, "We try to choose a different part of the community each year and our decision was in part connected to a great supporter of KMS Paige Lindenberg, who runs a similar project in the Free State. Education is so important and GRMC hopes this gesture will go some way to help young schoolgirls not miss classes."
Pretorius added, "On Sunday 28 April the Knysna Motor Show will be back on the school playing fields at Waterfront Drive and a number of local charities will benefit from funds raised that day – so far over R500 000 has been given away locally. The ad hoc donations raised at GRMC events are therefore targeted at smaller NPOs who lie outside the KMS beneficiaries."
