SEDGEFIELD NEWS - Residents of Sedgefield are urged to refrain from drinking tap water as the town’s potable water is currently not fit for human consumption.
Knysna Municipality issued a public notice stating that recent testing revealed elevated levels of conductivity and salinity in the water supply, making it unsafe to drink.
However, the water may still be used for other domestic purposes.
“We are actively addressing the situation and are committed to resolving it as swiftly as possible,” the municipality said.
To alleviate the immediate impact on residents, the municipality has dispatched water tankers to three key locations in Sedgefield:
- Smutsville
- Groenvlei
- Sedgefield Town
The water tankers already operated until 22:00 last night and resumed distribution from 06:00 today, 22 October.
Each area will be serviced by one water truck as part of a temporary arrangement until the drinking water quality is restored.
Knysna-Plett Herald has sent an official inquiry to the municipality as to the cause of the elevated conductivity and salinity levels.
This is a developing story and updates will be published as more information becomes available.
