KNYSNA NEWS - SANParks Honorary Rangers Knysna has donated R100 000 to the Kruger Recovery Fund in support of rehabilitation efforts after the park suffered extensive flood damage last week.
The donation follows the announcement by the Minister of Forestry, Fisheries and the Environment, Willie Aucamp (MP), on 22 January of the establishment of the Kruger Recovery Fund.
Sabine Schukai, SANParks Knysna chairperson, said the contribution reflects R1 000 for every year of Kruger National Park’s 100-year legacy, marking the park’s centenary while supporting its recovery and future sustainability.
The minister noted that external support is required because the scale of the damage exceeds the park’s immediate internal capacity.
Donations to the Kruger Recovery Fund will contribute towards restoring ecosystems and critical infrastructure and safeguarding livelihoods.
SANParks has confirmed that the fund will be independently audited by three reputable audit firms to ensure transparency and accountability.
“The Kruger Recovery Fund is intended to ensure the long-term sustainability of the Kruger National Park as a national heritage asses, economic driver, and symbol of South Africa’s commitment to conservation amid climate risks.” said Aucamp.
Members of the public can contribute to the Kruger Recovery Fund through two channels: via the SANParks Honorary Rangers’ 2026 Flood Fund, with details available on their official platforms, or by making a direct donation to SANParks through the Kruger Recovery Fund bank account.
