GARDEN ROUTE DISTRICT NEWS - The Minister of Tourism Mmamoloko Kubayi-Ngubane on 4 August made the names of small, medium and micro enterprises (SMMEs) public who benefitted through the Tourism Relief Fund (TRF).
"The TRF was established to provide relief to the tourism sector. It provided for a once-off capped grant to SMMEs, which aims to ensure continued operations during the pandemic and also for a while after the pandemic has passed," says Herman Pieters, communications officer at Garden Route Municipality, in a statement released on Wednesday 12 August.
"Many of the businesses will be able to utilise the fund to subsidise expenses towards fixed costs, operational costs, supplies and other pressure cost items. Allocation of funds to ordinary South Africans, was conducted in line with government policies. This ensured that the benefit would be spread geographically across the country to cover even businesses in small villages and townships."
In the Western Cape 967 businesses and more than 100 operators in the Garden Route and Klein-Karoo benefitted from the grant which is capped at R50 000.
A list of the beneficiaries is available on the Garden Route Municipality's web site.
