PLETTENBERG BAY NEWS - Much-welcomed rain that started in the early hours on Thursday 15 January has brought slight relief to Plettenberg Bay - a day after Level 4 water restrictions were imposed in Bitou.
Plett Central recorded a rainfall of 30,5mm over a 12-hour period, while other measurements along the N2 in Ferdinand Street recorded 50mm.
In Nature’s Valley, 52,5mm was recorded in a 24-hour period.
Rainfall in the Keurbooms catchment area was also promising.
A notice posted today said the Keurbooms North wildfire has been declared inactive and firefighting resources have been scaled down following the 35mm of rainfall.
“We extend a sincere thank you to the Plett community for their generous contributions and donations of supplies for the firefighters, as well as the Beacon Island KwikSPAR for facilitating the collection,” read the notice.
"Donations have been distributed to the WoF, SANParks, MTO, SCFPA and Bitou Fire crews. No more donations are required.”
