KNYSNA NEWS - Knysna police are investigating two cases of malicious damage to property after two delivery trucks travelling on the N2 towards Knysna were allegedly pelted with stones on Thursday 7 May.
Knysna police spokesperson Sergeant Chris Spies said two cases were opened at the Knysna police station on 7 May, following the incidents on the N2 highway near Oupad between 02:30 and 03:30 in the morning.
"A preliminary investigation reveals that both vehicles, which are delivery trucks, were travelling towards Knysna when unknown suspects allegedly pelted these trucks with stones. No arrests have been made as yet," Spies said.
He added that the cargo of these vehicles was not removed or taken during these incidents. "There was no looting of the goods."
"Meanwhile police have increased visible patrols in the area and are also urging the public in general as well as commuters to remain vigilant," he said.
These incidents follow in the wake of a municipal vehicle carrying food parcels being looted in Nekkies by a group of unknown people.
Knysna-Plett Herald reported recently that a Knysna municipal employee was left shocked after the vehicle she was travelling in, which transported food parcels, was looted in Nekkies recently, allegedly by a group of Nekkies residents. The incident happened on Saturday 25 April at around 14:00.
Spies said the circumstances surrounding the incident at Uniondale Road, Knysna are still being investigated and that so far, only a case of malicious damage to property has been opened.
